It’s the look that counts…

Last week I met a woman in RL, who had participated in the launching of Mogens Jacobsen and Sachiko Hayashi’s works in SL. She visited SMK to experience the exhibition “from the other side”, but looked a bit dissapointed when finding out Sachiko’s work was only in SL. Apperently they had spoken in SL and she was really excited about what more there was to it in RL.

However, she was really impressed about seeing the avatars on such big screens and wanted to log in with her own “alt”(er ego). “Your avatar is SO ugly”, she told me, “here’s my card, call me if you need any help with designing clothes, skin and lovely hair”. Feeling a bit embarrased – I’m the one who’s supposed to guide the visitors in RL – she logged in with her avatar, a very foxy girl with long legs, curly blonde hair and huge red lips. Watching this elderly woman standing in RL using her young avatar, I guess one of my prejudices against SL was comfirmed. On the other hand – and why not?
