We are doing an art festival in the virtual city newBERLIN, the 1:1 reproduction of Berlin in Second Life.

WHY:
crossing real life and secondlife borders
Art Exhibitions in RL are usual. Art Exhibitions in SL are almost as usual, these days.
We don’t want to place art only in one of the systems. With newBERLIN we try to be “rSL”.
Borders between RL and SL, Reality and Virtuality are slowly disappearing.
New space, new borders are to be discovered and fathomed.

Why rSL?
Everyone is part of social networks in RL.
We don’t want to transfer this network into SL, we want to bring both together.
Expanding the possibilities for social networking by creating bigger and bigger nets. Be rSL.

rSL and Art:
Art can be created in RL.
Art can be created in SL.
RL created art can be uploaded to SL, SL created art can be transfered to RL.
RL art differs from SL art in many aspects.
Different medias, different perception.
Result: different pictures. Pictures of SL, RL, rSL.

The reflection about (self-)images helps us to understand the perception of people and of ourselves.
Its essential for social networking to think about other peoples minds, different images.
Art is the future language of the rSL world.
Art is a net. Art net – net art. Art is the base of social network.

SL as a medium is a reduction, abstraction of RL.
The different and although so similar worlds can be connected better by reflecting perceptions.
By creating, viewing and reflecting (self-)images.
Networking can’t be percepted completely, like RL, SL, rSL. Everyone takes part in his own way.

The art festival does only make sense if we create a network together. An art net, a social network.
Everyone who is interested in art may join by placing his art / his mind-images in newBERLIN.

A net isn’t static. Its pulsating.
The braincell is the CUBIX_Gallery. Here art is shown in little cabins. The headquarter is the center of the room.

The city of newBERLIN is the place for networking.
Networking is a process. The festival also is one. By talking, blogging, discussing we try to understand the possibilities of rSL.

The festival is an exhibition of RL and SL artists as a part of the newBERLIN project. The transgression of reality into virtuality is topic and aim of our festival, that we want to reach by bringing sl and rl art together and opening as well as merging real space and virtual space.
What is virtual? real? ART(ificial)?

To what degree am I already virtual?
What is fascinating in making “real art” virtual? “virtual art” real?
Are there any borders between the systems? And if so, where are they to be found?

The project will take place at the CUBIX in newBERLIN, a RL/SL location.
