a memorial to the iraq war

My work evolves round how national states chooses to remember or forget acts of war. How would a contemporary memorial to the Iraq war look like? and is it even possible to install critical reflections while the conflict is still ongoing?

The space in The Danish National Gallery will be the scene for a series of chess games between Iraqis living in Denmark and the artist, whilst reflecting on the possibility for making a memorial to the war. The events will be mirrored in Second life.

The game of chess was invented in India, but developed in Persia closer to the form it took after eventually reaching Europe. Marcel Duhamp noted that “Chess is much purer than art in its social position”. The game links eastern and western culture in a history of exchange.
